City Court

City and town courts are created by local ordinance. Currently there are forty-seven city courts and twenty-eight town courts in Indiana. The Tipton City Court hears cases involving misdemeanors, such as traffic infractions and city ordinance violations. City and town courts are not courts of record, so appeals from city and town courts go to the circuit or superior courts and are decided as if they have never been to court before.

In Indiana, city court judges are elected to serve four-year terms. Tipton City Court Judge Jack L. Richter has served since November 2009.
